For all my friends signing petitions to “keep the sanctity of marriage”, I urge you to reconsider. No matter what your religious beliefs on homosexuality are, marriage as an institution does not belong to the Christian church, it belongs to everyone. Yes, civil partnerships are available to gay couples, but if a civil partnership is truly “just like marriage”, then why not call it marriage? Instead, gay couples get a piece of legislation which is confusingly mapped to the rest of the world and often does not adequately represent their relationship. Allowing gay marriage is not going to affect your own straight marriage nor diminish it in any way, shape or form. Right now you’re running the risk of looking like a spoilt kid who won’t share the cookies. Where’s the love in that?
A Christian friend of mine. I have awesome friends.
